Chronic Health Conditions

In addition to our ongoing research, The Hood Center for Children and Families supports several programs that provide family-centered care for children with chronic health conditions. Family-centered care recognizes that families are the experts on their children and how their lives are affected by their health condition. Using a team-based approach, these programs partner families with health care professionals to ensure open communication, shared decision-making, and mutual trust in managing the health care needs of children and adolescents. As children mature, they are able to assume an increasingly greater role in the partnership and decision making.
