Chronic Health Conditions
Impact on Families
Using qualitative research methods, The Pediatric Psychosocial Research Program examines the impact of pediatric chronic illness on the family, especially the well sibling. Our research also focuses on the impact of other issues related to pediatric conditions, including transitioning from the pediatric to the adult provider, the meaning of hope in fatal disorders, and stress and coping of the pediatric sub-specialist caring for children with life-threatening conditions. Findings from this research have informed the development of a Sibling Center to support the families and siblings of children with chronic health conditions.
